Busy Hands

Drawing, building, reading and a den, in warm evening light.

A modern playroom for making things: a table for drawing and puzzles, books facing out where they can be chosen, and a den to crawl into at the end of the day. Warm white walls, a teal wave, oak slats and jute, with the pendant glowing in the evening.

The pieces

The Sofi table and two chairs sit in the middle of the rug. The table is one thin top on wide, tapered legs, and the chairs are cut from flat boards. The Sofi bookcase shows covers rather than spines, on three stepped ledges above a deeper box for bigger books. In the corner is the Ply Arch, 165 cm wide: two arches joined by flat slats, with low shelves and cubbies built in underneath. It is a den, a reading spot and storage in one.

How to get the look

  • Give each activity a place: a table for making, a bookcase for reading, a den for hiding.
  • Show book covers, not spines. Children choose by the picture.
  • Keep toys open-ended and few, such as blocks, stacking rings and a puzzle, and put the rest away.
  • Warm the evening with low light: a rattan pendant, a lamp, a glow behind slats.

Sizes and finishes

Every piece is cut, assembled and finished in our Dubai workshop when you order it, usually in 10–14 working days, in Natural, Sand, Smoke or Snow. If your space needs a size we don't list, ask us: it is often possible.
