Ordering custom furniture in Dubai: how it works, start to finish

Roughly half of what leaves our workshop is not on the website. Someone sends a photo, or a room measurement, or a sketch on the back of an envelope, and we make the thing. People are often surprised that this is straightforward, so here is the whole process, plainly.

1. Tell us what you are trying to solve

Not what you want built — what problem it fixes. "A sideboard 2.2 metres wide" is useful. "An awkward alcove beside the TV that swallows toys" is more useful, because it lets us suggest something better than what you had in mind. Photos of the space, rough dimensions and a sense of the style you like are plenty to start.

2. We draw it

You get sketches, and for anything complex a CAD drawing showing real proportions. This is where most of the decisions actually get made — height, depth, how many shelves, whether the doors are solid or slatted, which of the four finishes. Changes at this stage cost nothing, which is why we do it before any money changes hands.

3. Price and timeline

You get a fixed price and a date. Custom work has a minimum spend, and we will tell you straight away if what you are describing sits below it — nobody benefits from us taking on a job too small to do properly. Pricing depends on size, material used and complexity, not on how much we think the postcode can bear.

Timelines: collection pieces are about two weeks. Custom runs longer — up to six weeks depending on design and material — and we would rather quote you six and deliver in four than the reverse.

4. We build it

In our own workshop in Ras Al Khor, by our own carpenters. Not outsourced, not drop-shipped, not assembled from someone else's flat pack. You are welcome to come and see it being made — people do, and it is usually the part they enjoy most.

5. Delivery

We deliver and, where needed, install. Most pieces arrive fully assembled. Free delivery in Dubai and Sharjah; a flat charge for the other emirates, free over AED 2,500.

Four questions worth asking any workshop

What is it actually made of, all the way through? "Wood" is not an answer. Painted furniture is usually MDF, which matters for durability and for moisture.

Who is making it? A surprising amount of "bespoke" furniture in this city is brokered to a third-party workshop the seller has never visited.

What happens if it is wrong? Ours carries a one-year warranty from purchase, subject to inspection, and if we made a mistake we fix it.

Is the quoted price inclusive of VAT, and will I get a tax invoice? If you are a business, you need a proper tax invoice with the supplier's TRN on it to reclaim the VAT. Not everyone issues one.
